Canon Pixma MX850

Excellent print quality and speed

Scanner quality isn't great

Canon touts the Canon Pixma MX850 as a multifunction powerhouse, and it's worthy of such a description. On top of being fast, easy to use, and excellent at outputting documents and photos, the MX850 includes features such as a duplexer and an automatic...

Canon Pixma MX850

The Canon Pixma MX850 is a small, versatile multifunction printer suited to a small office looking for a cheap, do-it-all machine. It offers a broad range of features and reasonable document print quality, but don't expect top quality colour prints.

Quick, quality scanning ; Plenty of functionality well suited to offices ; Good software

Much slower print speed than promised ; Not great for photo printing ; No USB cable supplied

Verdict For AU$449 including GST the Canon Pixma MX850 is a reliable and versatile office warrior, and would ideally suite the small office looking for broad functionality. If you're looking for speedy, high quality photo and documents prints without...

The Canon PIMXA is a solid office performer with a raft of features; just don't expect top quality photograph printing.

Canon Pixma MX850

As typical with new printers today, there are too many bells and whistles and therefore, too many things that can go wrong. The Ethernet doesnt work. I telephoned Canon here in Sydney and thay actually acknowledged that they were receiving a number of...

Very few. We still have the printer and it prints but thats about it

Ethernet doesnt work (and by Canon's own admission) ; Scan quality is very poor ; Print quality is only 'adequate' but essentially substandard ; Very difficult to follow set up instructions for the more advanced features

This really is the Multifunction with everything, and at a bargain price compared to what you'd pay for all this only a couple of years ago!

Ethernet Connection ; Auto Duplex Scanning and Printing in Colour and Black and White ; Scan and select which computer to push it to

Canon Pixma MX850

Set-up was simple and installed on 2 pcs on a simple LAN with the Ethernet option in under 1 hour. All functions have worked 1st time and every time. This printer is a true multi-function printer with the inclusion of the fax. I have only used via a...

Consumerables are reasonably priced and flexible to change where a particular cartridge runs empty

Initial print or scan could be faster, but following pages were quick enough ; Once or twice whilst scanning, I have had to re-boot the pc too clear a hung operation, although I haven't traced the source of this problem to either the MX-850, the...

Good

Overall, pluses far outweigh the negs, mainly for all the must have features listed in the pros section. It's easy to use, prints well, and doesn't use too much ink. Life is just easier with my Canon. This rivals some basic office-grade laser Xerox...

Automatic document feeder (ADF) is a must in any environment where you will be scanning lots of documents... it's really nice because you can scan both front and back automatically. Very easy to scan to PDF as well, which is a must (couldn't do this...

The only big annoyance I have is that when using the ADF to scan stacks of paper, some pages will usually scan slightly crooked. I have tried everything I can think of to kind of make sure the originals are loaded in the tray straight, but at the end...
