Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Full, in-depth, Australian review

This is one of the best smartphones you can buy right now. But whether you should buy it is another question entirely.

Solid specs ; Beautiful design ; New S-Pen features

Incredibly expensive ; Not a huge upgrade on the Note 8 ; Runs on Android Oreo

Galaxy Note 9: One of the year's best phones still isn't a must-buy

The Galaxy Note 9 is about to be last year's model, but that might be more than OK.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is a big, beautiful phone with top-tier specs including a massive battery and internal storage that starts at 128GB. The new S Pen doubles as a wireless remote for taking long-distance selfies.

It's expensive and offers few real innovations over last year's Note 8. The fingerprint reader is uncomfortably close to the camera.

The ultrapricey Note 9 is one of the year's best phones, but wait until Samsung announces its Galaxy Note 10 successor to make a decision.

Samsung's Notebook 9 Pen steals its best ideas from the Galaxy Note 8 phone

It's a slim, lightweight hybrid with the same built-in S Pen as the Galaxy Note phone.

The Samsung Notebook 9 Pen is extremely light but powerful, has plenty of ports, multiple biometric security features and includes Samsung's excellent S Pen stylus.

Especially for a premium-priced laptop, the design is bland. Battery life is merely OK. The stylus feels better suited for a small phone screen than a laptop screen.

With the Notebook 9 Pen, Samsung works some key features from the Galaxy Note 8 phone into a premium two-in-one laptop.

Samsung owner for life!

Best mobile phone I have ever owned. Fully featured, love that the fingerprint scanner has been relocated on Note 9. Camera is brilliant, I rarely use my DSLR camera these days. Needs to be in a cover or case, being all glass it is easily damaged. Apps...

Samsung Care has been a disaster to deal with. This alone ruins the Samsung experience.

The phone was behaving pretty good — then 6 weeks in I started to notice odd errors. From slow text key responses, then to the assistant menu literally “spazzing” out all over the place before settling and unable to unlock the phone. The issues were...

Terrible

I switched from the Google pixel 2xl to this brick. This crap goes on and on about it's battery life which I've barely noticed a difference from my old phone. I get pop ups and unwanted screen ads which I'm not used to considering that never happened...
