Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 Review | Trusted Reviews

The Surface Laptop 2 is a slender and stylish touchscreen that gives the MacBook Air a run for its money, but is it worth it? We find out.

Excellent display ; Battery that'll easily last you a day ; Lightweight and attractive design ; Nicely spaced keyboard

No USB-C ports ; Expensive

An excellent display, long-lasting battery, comfortable keyboard, and fetching design mean the Surface Laptop 2 is a high performer for everyday use. It's not cheap though.

A faster Surface Laptop 2 is back, now in black

Even with a big performance boost, more RAM and a cool new matte black color, this still feels more like a Surface Laptop 1.5.

The Surface Laptop 2 ups the default RAM and upgrades to much faster processors. The new matte black color option looks great.

Other than a CPU/RAM bump, there's very little new about this. The black color option is only available on more expensive configurations. No USB-C, a rarity for premium laptops.

Microsoft's Surface Laptop 2 gets a big speed boost and a new color option, but is otherwise a minimal update to the first version.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 review: if it ain’t broke

Microsoft opts for internal upgrades over external changes for its second laptop

Sleek, well-made design ; Comfortable keyboard and excellent trackpad ; Bright, pixel-dense touchscreen ; Snappy performance and quiet fans

No USB-C ports ; No SD card slot ; Just one USB-A port ; Just average battery life

But I can’t call it the best laptop overall right now, because there are other options with better performance, just as sleek designs, and more modern port selections. The Surface Laptop certainly wasn’t broken, but Microsoft could have done a little...

Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 review: A once-great laptop now is merely good

Microsoft's Surface Laptop 2 remains virtually unchanged, but its streamlined design and excellent battery life are being encroached upon by a host of competing notebooks.

Aside from processor, hardware is virtually unchanged from first generation ; Processor bump provides some performance improvement ; Very good battery life ; Solid value, especially if you don't opt for premium black

Aside from processor, hardware is virtually unchanged from 1st gen ; Lack of USB-C ports might become a problem over time

While I really love the simple minimalism of the Surface Laptop 2’s chassis—remember, Microsoft designed it to pry students away from Apple MacBook Airs—there’s no denying that it’s now a bit behind the times. Yes, a laptop is more “lappable” than a...

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 Review: Surface Essentials

Microsoft's Surface lineup was created to bring a spark of innovation into the PC industry at a time where much of the competition was slow to change, and slow to adopt new form factors and new technologies. Microsoft's Surface Pro lineup has...

Overall, the Surface Laptop 2 is an easy laptop to fall for. It offers great styling, a good display, and the Surface touches such as a touch display, great keyboard, and great design. Some people won’t be able to live with a single USB port though,...

Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 review: Windows 10 perfection, bar one irritation...

The Surface Laptop sequel is one of the best premium ultraportable Windows 10 devices available, except for its older ports lacking future-proofing.

Excellent performance and battery life ; Lovely design and very tactile ; Well priced at the entry level ; Superb screen

Lack of USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 isn't future-proofed ; Core i7 models can get expensive ; Keyboard is a bit loud

The Surface Laptop 2 is one of the best premium ultraportables out there. Just like its predecessor it's gorgeous to look at and incredibly well built. Only this time it comes with full Windows 10 off the bat, plus more power than before. The biggest...

Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 review

The Surface Laptop was far from broken, but does it sequel fix enough to be worthwhile?

Windows 10 instead of 10S ; Faster internals for more versatile work ; Fantastic screen and keyboard

Carpeted keyboard can get dirty ; Could do with more ports

The Surface Laptop 2 is far from a revolutionary sequel, but it changes just enough to retain all the accolades we heaped upon it last year

Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 review

A sleek, strong and silent sequel

Competitive power level ; Lovely new black color scheme ; Quieter keyboard ; No more Windows 10 S Mode

No Thunderbolt 3 option ; Too few ports for its size

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 2 is, from top to bottom, a worthy sequel to the original device. This new model vastly improves the laptop’s power profile and, while it doesn't include tangible design changes, it ultimately achieves the most pure Windows...

Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 (Core i5, 256 GB) Laptop Review

Great display, relatively weak connectivity. The new Surface Laptop 2 from Microsoft is a slightly reworked version of the old model with an up-to-date processor. Overall, this creates a well-balanced package. We are particularly happy with the 3:2...

high-quality, stable case ; good display with precise colors ; low emissions ; good input devices ; decent performance ; very good speakers ; long battery runtime

neither Thunderbolt, USB-C, BT 5.0 nor SD card reader ; no maintenance options ; high premiums for RAM, CPU and SSD ; display has slow response rate

As mentioned at the beginning, Microsoft has mainly updated the old Surface model. The Surface Laptop 2 offers up-to-date processors with four cores, a quieter cooling system, slightly improved speakers and a new color variation. The screen continues...
