Sony HDR-SR5E

When high definition video first entered the marketplace, it was considered an exclusive luxury that only the rich and privileged could afford. Nowada...

Vibrant picture quality, decent stills mode, 40GB hard drive

AVCHD format incompatible with most DVD players

The Sony HDR-SR5E is an excellent HD HDD camera that offers great value for money. Simply put, it is one of the best models in this price range that we've seen.

Sony Handycam HDR-SR5

An uninspiring entrant in Sony's HD camcorder lineup. The Sony Handycam HDR-SR5's video quality and performance simply don't deliver for the price.

Neat Face Index feature ; Bundled dock

No eye-level viewfinder ; No wind filter ; No USB port on camcorder, just on bundled dock ; Annoying touch-screen interface ; Cables not ubiquitous yet for mini-HDMI connector

The Sony Handycam HDR-SR5 isn't a bad camcorder, but if you're going to spend the money for an HD model -- as well as endure the hassle of dealing with AVCHD video -- you might as well go for one with superior video. You'll have to spend a few hundred...

Sony Handycam HDR-SR5

Bought this one duty free on a whim as I was flying out of the country. Decided I didn't really need the larger hard drive or photo resolution of it's big brothers but missed the fact it had no image stabilisation.

Excellent review functions. Worked well in cold temps for a long period of time (on a ski mountain), easy to use

No image stabilisation makes hard work to capture steady imagery on the move. (skiing) ; The zoom control seems to be counter intuitive (reversed IMHO) ; No eye piece? viewfinder means you have to either record blind with the viewfinder closed or have...

Good

I was impressed with the video quality and how easy to create DVD direct from the camcorder. I would like the possibility to have a more common High definition format to archive and move my video files on external USB storage and share without having...

Excelent Still photos at the same time of taking video. Night mode is good. Built in flash for still photos.

Have to use the included software to watch on computer and unable to use media player or media center software to see video

I am not really that happy with my purchase to tell you the truth. I want to be able to record great quality video, put in on my computer to get DVD's made to give to friends and family. That is the point of a personal camcorder. To record your...
