As with the Sony HDR-CX7K, this is a solid product let down by the price of its recordable media. We'd therefore recommend it to people who already own a large collection of SD cards (or an even larger wallet).

3CCD sensor, 1920x1080 resolution, attractive looks

SDHC memory cards are expensive, a few niggles in the design

Panasonic HDC-SD5

Compact size. First-rate video.

Flash memory fills up fast.

The Panasonic HDC-SD5 delivers fantastic HD video and accessible but clever features in a petite package — we just wish it had more memory.

A dinky AVCHD camcorder, with respectable video performance and a reasonable price.

Panasonic HD Camcorder HDC-SD5

If you have an HD TV, you might be considering upgrading to an HD camcorder as well. And Panasonic's SD5 may just be the trick - so long as you have enough memory cards to support your HD habit.

Form factor; Video quality; Connectivity options; Ease of use

Recording time (41 minutes in highest mode using 4GB SDHC card); Price of SDHC card

Panasonic's support centre is unhelpful, to say the least. They just pushed me off to find my own solution to the problem with their software!! They know of the problem but have not made the effort to have a solution at hand for customers. They just...

Portability ; Ease of use ; Quality of HD image ; Simplicity of use of SD memory card ; Flexibility of using SD and SDHC cards

Limited means of dealing with this format of video -- won't even download to my X-Pro II plus ; No external microphone input ; The Panasonic software (HD Writer) cannot be installed on my computer as I have Windows XP Service Pack 3. The software does...

Panasonic HDC-SD5

The Panasonic SD-5 is a great ultra light HD camcorder. I read many reviews on this camera before buying and was very close to purchasing the older SD1 model. A couple of blogs turned me to the SD5 because of picture quality. However I would like to...

Awesome HD video quality ; Really light weight ; Great fit in the hand ; Easy to use

Comes with only a 4GB card (however I think it will soon come with a 8GB one) ; Picture quality diminishes in low light
