GOOD GEAR GUIDE - EDITOR'S CHOICE

Canon Legria HF S10

The Canon Legria HF S10 is a flash memory-based Full HD (1920x1080) camcorder equipped with 32GB of inbuilt storage. It replaces the Canon HF11 as the...

Excellent Full HD video quality, huge array of manual features, quick and responsive control dial

Too expensive for most consumers

The Canon Legria HF S10 is one of those rare camcorders that will please all types of user. It combines beginner-friendly features with in-depth manual controls and produces unmatched video quality to boot. Unfortunately, it's also prohibitively...

Canon Vixia HF S10 review: Canon Vixia HF S10

Canon Vixia HF S10

Excellent video quality and performance; nicely designed interface; fast battery charging.

No eye-level viewfinder; expensive; lens cover rattles when closed.

An excellent flash-based prosumer HD camcorder, you may nevertheless pass on the Canon Vixia HF S10 because it lacks an eye-level viewfinder. And the identical--but cheaper, because it has no built-in memory--Vixia HF S100 may also be a better buy.

Canon Legria HFS10

The awkwardly named Legria HFS10 is the star of Canon's range of high-def flash memory camcorders. It features a larger 8.6-megapixel CMOS sensor, 10x zoom, 32GB of storage, optical image stabilisation and a plethora of inputs and outputs.

Outlook We're looking forward to getting our hands on HFS10, but it's going to be a long wait until mid-March when it goes on sale in Australia. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.

Mmy first hd camcorder. Sorry to learn that canon hasn't developed win7 drivers and software, yet, although win7 has been several months underway and has been official the last 2,5 months. Otherwise a neat product.

32GB Capacity isn't enough. At the best quality 24Mbs that means just under 3 hrs.Not enough when travelling. You will need to buy more SD cards. More $$$ when you want decent capacities.

I'm sure it will give a reasonable picture.

Insufficient on board memory.

Looks very promising. Hopefully the DIGIC DV III will unleashe the full potential of 24Mbps recording. I was hoping for 64GB but internal flash is slow to transfer anyway so I'll be sticking with SD cards which max out at 32GB anyway (doubt it will...

Larger sensor for oversampling, DIGIC DVIII, Larger Lens, Better manual controls

Good specs but limited on capacity! At 24 Mbs how much recording time can you get out of 32GB? Only 2hrs 55 mins. Lets face it when it comes to a HD camcorder at the moment the HDD/SD hybrids are the way to go when it comes down to $ for capacity.

Good specs

Limited on Capacity
