Canon HF11

A case of deja vu.

Exceptionally sharp image quality, lots of manual features, improved 24Mbps bit rate

Too similar to previous model, joystick ill-suited to manual control

If you already own the HF10, there is next to no reason to make the switch to the HF11. Everyone else, on the other hand, would do well to seek this camcorder out.

It might not fit every hand, but the results it provides are excellent whether you're a manual fiddler or just want quick and easy automatic filming capabilities.

32GB on-board ; Variety of available bit rates ; Able to fiddle manually, or just shoot automatically ; Great picture quality

Square camera body can be fiddly to pick up ; Battery life is a touch short

Conclusion If its shape suits your taste in camcorders, then Canon's HF11 is the first flash memory-based high-def camcorder we've tested with the quality and the capacity to mix it with the hard-disk boys.

Canon Vixia HF11 review: Canon Vixia HF11

Canon Vixia HF11

Excellent video quality; fast focus; compact, attractive, and comfortable design.

Wind filter not as dependable as previous Canon models; manual focus pretty useless.

Like its sibling the HF10, Canon's flash-based Vixia HF11 delivers excellent HD video quality and performance in a tiny package. However, the HF11 delivers a bit more value for its lower price.

Canon HF11

Reasonable quality but deficient on capacity. At 24 Mbs HQ its just under 3 hours. Not enough when travelling. Have to buy more SD cards to add more memory. I should of gone for a hybrid HDD/SD with the capacity.

Reasonable quality but my friends JVC HD camcorder looks better

Not enough on board memory

Canon HF11

Absolutely fantastic HD camera - especially for the money. The best and most future-proof palmcorder on the market, bar none.

The only AVCHD camera (along with its two hard-drive-based brothers) to record at full 24mbps bitrate ; Having 32Gb memory onboard (3 hrs at full-quality) is fantastic ; SD cards are far cheaper than ridiculous Sony memory sticks ; Excellent lens ;...

Small gripes ; Manual focus a bit useless ; A little noisy in low light, unless you use Cine mode ; Audio is only Dolby Digital 2.0, not 5.1 or PCM ; When shooting at 25p, be sure to set the shutter-speed to 125th/sec or higher
